Cosmic Prisons: prison servers, but every planet is a different game

Opened October 23, 2016 by two of the biggest Minecraft YouTubers of the time. Each planet is its own prison with its own culture, and 2026 brought it back.

In late 2015, two YouTubers with millions of subscribers, PrestonPlayz and MrWoofless, opened a factions server called CosmicPvP. A year later, on October 23, 2016, they opened its sibling: Cosmic Prisons, a prison server set in space where each planet is "a dynamic and unique prisons experience" with "individual cultures, economies, communities." Ten years on, with "COSMIC PRISONS IS BACK" all over YouTube in 2026, it has hundreds online when we check.

Planets, not servers

The structure is the idea. Instead of one prison with A-to-Z mines, Cosmic Prisons splits its players across planets, each a separate prison world with its own economy, mines, gang wars and season timer. A planet fills up, its economy inflates, its top gang takes over, and a new season resets it while another planet is mid-cycle. Moving between them is part of the game, and the community sorts itself by how competitive it wants to be.

Gangs

Prison is a team sport here: gangs share vaults, fight over PvP mines and race for top gang at season's end.

Custom enchants and mining

Pickaxes with cosmic enchants, mining pets and prestige systems that make the grind escalate rather than repeat.

Seasons

Planets reset on their own timers, so there is always a fresh start somewhere and a late-game endgame somewhere else.

The 2026 return

Cosmic Prisons has had quiet stretches, and the video titles from 2026, "IS BACK... AND IT CHANGES EVERYTHING," "RELEASE TODAY!", mark a relaunch on Minecraft 1.21.11 that brought the old crowd home. It's run by FireGames Inc. now, with an in-game currency called Cosmic Coins and a store that is, as prison stores tend to be, generous with the cosmetics. The server is Java Edition only.

Joining

Add cosmicprisons.com on Minecraft 1.21. Pick a planet that has just reset if you want a fair race, or a late-season one if you want to join a gang that's already winning. The wiki explains the enchants; learn them before you spend.

For the classic single-world prison, read our story on Purple Prison. Our prison servers guide covers the format; the prison servers list has the rest.
