"Magic awaits you!" says the front page, and then the small print reminds you that the server is "not in any way affiliated with Mojang AB, J.K. Rowling, Warner Brothers or any company." Both things are true. Potterworld has been running a wizarding school inside Minecraft since 2013, with its own names for everything (Hogsworth, Hogsend, Quabbleball) and a level of polish that most licensed games would envy.
School, quests and a very large castle
You arrive as a student. There's a castle with a Great Hall, hidden passageways, and puzzles that reward exploring; a Quest Journal that tracks the stories you're on; and a Daily Taskboard with bonus rewards for showing up. Spells are the combat and utility system, wands and brooms the gear, and the wider world runs out to places like Silvermorne, Castelomagia, Galdrakademia and, in a nod the community enjoys, Otoh Gunga.
A custom resource pack and Model Engine give the server animated creatures with player detection, custom items and interfaces, on a normal Java client.
/games opens the lobby. Quabbleball, the broom sport, returned after being unavailable on 1.18, and seasonal events like the Butterbrew Festival rotate through.
The store sells wands, mounts, brooms, pets and death effects. Progress is played for.
The 2.0 rebuild
The server moved to Minecraft 1.18+ and has been publishing 2.0 progress updates, the latest in August 2026, along with teaser videos. It's a ground-up rebuild of the school and its systems on the modern engine, the sort of project a thirteen-year-old server takes on when it intends to be around for another thirteen. The current world keeps running in the meantime, with the Butterbrew Festival live in September 2026.

Connect to play.potterworldmc.com on the version the MOTD asks for and accept the resource pack; the castle looks wrong without it. Read the quest signs at the start, pick classes, and don't rush. The exploring is the game.
