Origin Realms: a modded-looking Minecraft you join with the plain launcher

New biomes, new creatures, new blocks and dungeons, all delivered by a resource pack when you connect. The team behind it is a studio, and it shows.

Origin Realms looks like a modpack. There are biomes that aren't in the game, creatures that aren't in the game, blocks and furniture and dungeons that aren't in the game. But you join it with the ordinary Minecraft launcher, because everything is done with a resource pack the server sends you and a lot of clever work on the server side. The teaser in June 2020 called it "the next generation of Minecraft Multiplayer." It opened to everyone in December that year and has kept adding to the world since.

What "no mods" gets you

The pitch on the site is to "enhance and expand upon vanilla gameplay, with custom blocks, new biomes, detailed characters, dungeons and more." When you connect, the server's pack replaces the look of certain vanilla items and blocks with new ones, so a mushroom block becomes a piece of furniture and a retextured mob becomes a new creature with its own behavior. The world generation is custom too; the team's world-generation engineer says on the site that "the worlds of Origin Realms are something incredibly important," and the terrain is where you notice the difference first.

Custom worlds

Realms with their own biomes and structures. A "Realm of the Month" program, in its second month in September 2026, rotates themed worlds.

Creatures and dungeons

New mobs with animations, bosses, and dungeons to run with friends, all server-side.

Cosmetics, not power

Skin packs and cosmetics fund the server. Progress is earned in game.

The studio behind it

Origin Realms is made by Starfish Studios. It was co-founded by Eraze, and today CJ runs it as managing director with an art director, engineers, a world-generation engineer, a texture artist and a web developer, all named on the site. That's unusual for a survival server, and it explains the polish: the models move properly, the pack loads quickly, and the interface looks designed rather than assembled from plugins.

Joining

Connect with a recent Java version (the MOTD lists the range) and accept the server resource pack when prompted; without it you'll see the vanilla textures and none of the new world. Community add-on packs exist for players who want the vanilla textures restyled to match, but the server's own pack is all you need.

If you like custom content without mods, our stories on MinePiece and Potterworld use the same trick for very different games. More on our adventure servers list.
