GommeHD.net: 4.4 million players and 22 game modes, made in Germany

It started with 24 slots as a YouTuber's subscriber special in July 2012. Today a company of 115 people runs it from two data centers in Frankfurt.

On July 28, 2012, a German YouTuber called GommeHD opened a 24-slot Minecraft server as a treat for subscribers. The game mode was HungerGames. Fourteen years later, GommeHD.net has more than 4.4 million registered players, 22 public game modes, and a company behind it with 115 people on the team. It is, by any measure, the biggest Minecraft server in the German-speaking world, and one of the biggest in Europe.

From subscriber special to company

The founders were GommeHD and Christoph Renk, and the server outgrew a hobby within a year: IndieLemon GmbH & Co. KG was set up in 2013 (and restructured in 2016) to run it. German Wikipedia records the company's balance sheet passing 969,000 euros in 2021 and a team of 115 members in April 2025. The servers sit in two redundant data centers in Frankfurt, which is why European players get the low ping that made the network's PvP scene.

22 game modes

From the original HungerGames through BedWars, SkyWars, Cores, Ranked SkyWars and a CityBuild mode added in 2019.

Competitive leagues

The CWBW league (clan-wars BedWars) has run seasons with cash prizes, 1,000 euros for its second, announced with trailers of their own.

Two ways in

The MOTD says it: a "1.8 legacy network" for the classic PvP crowd, and the modern 1.21+ network for everyone else.

4,400,000+registered players, per German Wikipedia's figures for the network

Playing in English

GommeHD.net is German-first: menus, chat rules and announcements are in German, and most of the crowd is from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It's still perfectly playable if you don't speak it. The games are the same games, the lobby icons are pictures, and BedWars needs no translation. If you're in Europe and tired of transatlantic ping, this is the busiest network on your side of the ocean.

  1. Launch: 24 slots, HungerGames, subscribers only.

  2. IndieLemon is founded to run the network as a business.

  3. CityBuild joins the line-up, a survival-and-build mode alongside the minigames.

  4. A new official trailer for the network.

  5. 22 modes, a 1.8 legacy network and the 1.21+ main network running side by side.
