Minecraft 26.1 servers

Tiny Takeover, released March 24, 2026. The first game drop of 2026 and the first version named by year. It brought new baby mob models, the golden dandelion and craftable name tags, and needs Java 25 to run. Hotfixes 26.1.1 and 26.1.2 followed in April.

When servers move to a new version

Big networks usually let the new version in on release day, because they run ViaVersion, which translates between client versions; its public builds have followed each release by about three days. Paper, the server software most servers run, publishes test builds on release day and stable ones three to six weeks later, so smaller servers often wait for those and for their plugins to update. Your client can join a server on an older version only if that server runs ViaVersion.
