- Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 comes out on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, with Vibrant Visuals on by default. Until then, Switch 2 plays the Switch version.
- Switch owners get a digital upgrade path. Mojang hasn't said yet what it costs.
- Nothing announced adds an Add Server button, so on launch day expect featured servers, Realms and friends' worlds, with community workarounds for everything else.
Minecraft is getting a native Nintendo Switch 2 version on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Mojang and Nintendo announced the date in August, after first showing the game in a Nintendo Direct in June. It's Bedrock Edition, the same Minecraft as on phones, Xbox and PlayStation, rebuilt to use the Switch 2's extra power.
Until launch day, Switch 2 owners play the original Switch version, which runs on Switch 2 through backward compatibility and behaves the same as it does on a Switch. This page sticks to what's official, marks what isn't, and covers the part we know best: getting onto servers.
What's confirmed
| What Mojang and Nintendo have said | |
|---|---|
| Release date | Tuesday, October 27, 2026 |
| Edition | A native Switch 2 version of Bedrock Edition |
| Graphics | Vibrant Visuals on by default: directional light and shadows, volumetric fog and water reflections. Not in split-screen or with some Marketplace worlds. |
| Nintendo extras | The Super Mario Mash-Up pack gets a Vibrant Visuals update |
| If you own it on Switch | A digital upgrade path to the Switch 2 version, "more details to follow" |
| Online play | Needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership, as on Switch |
The Minecraft Wiki expects the Switch 2 version to arrive with Bedrock 26.60. A Switch 2-only closed beta has run since August as a separate app, with more view distance than the Switch version.
What isn't confirmed yet
- The price of the upgrade. Mojang has announced an upgrade path but not whether it's free or what it costs. Guesses you see online are just guesses.
- An Add Server button. Nothing announced says the Switch 2 version lets you type in a server address. Consoles have only ever had the featured servers.
- Crossplay at launch. Bedrock on Switch plays with phones, Xbox, PlayStation and PC when you sign in with a Microsoft account, and the Switch 2 version is Bedrock, so crossplay is expected. The announcements don't spell it out, though, and the closed beta had none outside preview Realms.
- Mouse controls and GameChat. Players have asked for Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Neither Mojang nor Nintendo has announced them.
Can you join servers on Switch 2?
Built in, you get three things: the featured servers in the Servers tab (The Hive, CubeCraft, Lifeboat, Galaxite and the rest Mojang picks), Realms, and your friends' worlds. Minecraft's own help page puts it plainly: console versions are limited to the featured servers. There's no way to add another server by its address, on Switch or, as far as anything announced says, on Switch 2.
For every other server, Switch players use community workarounds. Both of these work with the Switch version on a Switch 2 today. Whether they still work in the native version is something nobody can know before October 27.
- BedrockConnect (a DNS change). You point the console's DNS at BedrockConnect, open a featured server, and get a menu where you can type any server address and port. On Switch 2 the setting is in Settings, then Internet, then Internet Settings: pick your network under Saved Networks, then Change Settings, DNS Settings and Manual. Take the DNS addresses from the BedrockConnect project page, where the Switch primary has been 104.238.130.180 with 8.8.8.8 as the secondary.
- BedrockTogether (a phone app). The Switch doesn't show LAN games, so the app uses a Friends-tab broadcast instead: it signs in with a spare Microsoft account, you add that account as a friend, and the server appears in your Friends tab.
Our full Switch guide has every step, how to undo the DNS change, and the problems people run into. Both tools are independent projects, not made by Nintendo, Mojang or Microsoft, and they open up servers that aren't vetted like the featured ones.
Servers Switch 2 players can join
With a workaround, a Switch 2 can join any Bedrock server and any Java server that also lets Bedrock players in, usually through Geyser. Java-only servers stay out of reach, since there's no Java Edition on Nintendo consoles. We check every Java server on our list for a Bedrock entrance and show it on the server's page.
