How to promote a Minecraft server on TikTok: the clips that get views and the rules that limit you

TikTok reaches players who were not looking for a server, but it is a phone audience, links are mostly not tappable, and the clips that work are short real moments with the address in a pinned comment. Bedrock support matters more here than anywhere else.

For server ownersUpdated 7 min read

Quick answer
  • What works: server tours, POV moments, event recaps and the "IP in comments" pattern, 7 to 30 seconds, hook in the first second.
  • TikTok's own help page: a tappable bio link needs at least 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account. Captions and comments are plain text, so the address goes in a pinned comment and on screen.
  • The audience is on phones. On our list, Java servers that also answer a Bedrock ping have a median of 26 players against 6. Run Geyser or be Bedrock-native before you post.
  • Track joins with a tiktok.play. address and judge clips by joins, not views.

To promote a Minecraft server on TikTok you post short real clips of the server (a tour, a moment, an event) with a hook in the first second and the address in a pinned comment, several times a week, for months. It is the one free channel that reaches players who were not already searching for a server. It is also the most work per join, and it has two constraints that most owners find out the hard way: TikTok limits links, and the audience is on phones, which means Bedrock.

This guide is the TikTok-specific part of how to advertise a Minecraft server. It covers the formats that get views, cadence, the link and bio rules as TikTok states them, why crossplay is the difference between views and joins, how to track what a clip brought, and what to avoid.

What Minecraft server TikToks actually get views

Scroll the tag for any popular server mode and the same few shapes come up. They work because they show something in the first second and end with a reason to act.

The server tour

Spawn to the one thing that is yours in 20 to 30 seconds. Fast cuts, no logo intro, text on screen naming each spot. Ends on the address.

The POV moment

7 to 15 seconds of one real thing: a clutch escape, a betrayal, a boss dropping, a build reveal. First-person, the player's own reaction in chat. Ask the players involved first.

"IP in comments"

The clip shows the server, the caption says "IP in comments," and the pinned comment carries the address. It works because it makes viewers open the comments, which TikTok reads as engagement, and because links in captions are not tappable anyway.

The event recap

Last night's build contest, PvP bracket or drop party in 20 seconds with the winner's reaction. Real crowds are the one thing a small server can show that a trailer cannot fake.

Themed and niche hooks

Searches like "minecraft naruto server" and "minecraft parkour server tiktok" are real autocomplete phrases. If your server is themed, the theme is the hook; lead with it.

Day 1 vs day 30

The same spot at launch and a month later. Shows a living server, and it is easy to make if you recorded on day 1.

The hook is everything. The first frame should already be the interesting thing (mid-fight, the reveal half-done, a chat message that raises a question), and on-screen text in the first second should say what you are looking at. Sound matters too: a trending sound helps a clip get shown; a clip with no sound gets skipped.

Cadence you can keep

Three clips a week for three months beats a clip a day for two weeks. The account needs history before TikTok shows it to strangers, and most owners quit at week two. Batch the work: one recording session a week (an event night is ideal), one editing session that cuts three to five clips, then schedule them for the evenings your target players are on their phones.

Clip typeLength that worksHow often
POV moment7 to 15 secondsTwo a week; they are the easiest to make
Server tour20 to 35 secondsOne a month, refreshed each season
Event recap15 to 30 secondsAfter every event
Trailer cut30 to 45 secondsOnce, pinned to the profile; see how to make a server trailer

Post the same clips as YouTube Shorts (up to three minutes there, but keep them short) so one edit serves two feeds. Reply to comments within the hour on posting day; "what's the IP?" gets the pinned comment, "does it work on Bedrock?" gets a real answer, because that question is most of your audience.

Do not plan around a link you cannot post. TikTok's help page on profile links says: "You can add a link to a website on your TikTok profile if you have at least 1,000 followers, or if you have a Verified Business Account." Until then the bio is plain text, and it is short (80 characters on most accounts), so the address goes there as text. Links pasted into captions and comments are not tappable; they are just text people have to retype. That is why the pattern is address on screen at the end of the clip, address in a pinned comment, address in the bio.

  • Keep the address short and typeable. play.hollowpine.net beats a hostname with numbers, and it should be exactly what a player types on a phone.
  • Business account trade-off. A Business Account gets the link field at any follower count, but TikTok limits it to the Commercial Music Library, which cuts out most trending sounds. Most server accounts do better staying personal until 1,000 followers.
  • Age. The person running the account must meet TikTok's age rules; a server run by a 14-year-old needs an adult on the account.

The audience is on phones, so Bedrock decides the joins

Most TikTok viewers watch on a phone, and the Minecraft they own is Bedrock (Windows, iOS, Android, consoles). A Java-only server can get a hundred thousand views and a comment section of "how do I join on my phone?" with no honest answer. This is the difference between views and joins.

26 vs 6Median players online on our list for Java servers that also answer a Bedrock ping, against Java servers that do not (about 2,500 online servers). Correlation, not proof, but on TikTok the mobile audience makes it the obvious first fix.

Two ways to be ready. Run GeyserMC and Floodgate on your Java server so Bedrock players join with the same address and port 19132; our crossplay setup guide walks through it, and once it works our Bedrock probe puts you on the crossplay list automatically. Or run a Bedrock-native server. Either way, the pinned comment should give the Bedrock address and port, and the clip should show a phone joining if you can film it. Console players are the exception: Xbox, PlayStation and Switch cannot add a custom server by address in the normal game, so do not promise them anything.

How to track what a clip brought

  1. Use a TikTok-only address. Add tiktok.play.yourserver.net pointing at the same server and put that in every pinned comment. On Paper, PlayerLoginEvent.getHostname() returns the address the player typed, so a small plugin can count joins per hostname. Bedrock players through Geyser use the same hostname.
  2. Post at a fixed time. Then the spikes on the 7-day chart on your listing's stats page line up with your posts, and you can see which clip moved the needle.
  3. Count returners, not views. A clip with 50,000 views and two joins is a worse clip, for your purposes, than one with 3,000 views and ten joins who came back. Keep a sheet: clip, views, joins on the TikTok hostname, seen again after seven days.
  4. Read TikTok's analytics for one thing: average watch time. Clips people watch to the end get shown to more people; cut the next clip shorter than the one that was skipped.

What to avoid

  • Fake counts and fake crowds. Alt accounts or a fake-player plugin to make spawn look busy on camera. Viewers who join see the real number, and our pinger flags counts that never move or exceed the max.
  • Buying followers to unlock the link. Bought followers do not watch, which tanks the watch-time signal that gets clips shown. Reach 1,000 the slow way or run without the link.
  • Music you cannot use. On a personal account use TikTok's own sounds inside the app. Do not upload a clip with a copyrighted track baked in; it gets muted or removed.
  • Showing other players' names or faces without asking. Ask in Discord before a clip goes up. It takes ten seconds and it is the rule your players will remember.
  • Coordinates and seed on screen. Set the reducedDebugInfo game rule to true for recording sessions so F3 hides coordinates, or crop them out; a base shown with coordinates gets raided.
  • Promising console players a way in. They will try, fail, and say so in the comments.

Next step on this site: list your server free if it is not here, claim it from its server page, and add the trailer cut and three screenshots to the listing. When the bio link unlocks, the listing page is where it should point.

Quick questions

Can I put my Minecraft server IP in a TikTok caption?

Yes, as plain text; it will not be tappable. The pattern that works is the address on screen at the end of the clip, in a pinned comment, and in the bio, kept short enough to retype on a phone.

How many followers do I need to add a link on TikTok?

TikTok's help page says at least 1,000 followers, or a Verified Business Account at any size. Business accounts are limited to the Commercial Music Library, which is why most server accounts wait for 1,000.

Why do my Minecraft server TikToks get views but no joins?

Usually because the viewers are on phones and the server is Java-only, or because the address is hard to find or type. Add Geyser or a Bedrock address, pin the address, and measure with a TikTok-only hostname before changing the clips.

How long should a Minecraft server TikTok be?

7 to 15 seconds for a single moment, 20 to 35 for a tour or recap. The first second has to show the interesting thing; clips that are watched to the end get shown to more people.
