How to join a Minecraft server on PS5 (and PS4)

To join a Minecraft server on PS5, open Minecraft, go to the Servers tab and join one of the featured servers, or join a Realm you've been invited to. There's no box to type in a server IP on PlayStation, so reaching any other server means using a community workaround like BedrockConnect, which you set up through the PS5's DNS settings.

The same is true on PS4. Below we cover what you need, the exact PlayStation menu paths (they're different on PS4 and PS5), the one PlayStation-specific DNS detail most guides miss, and how to put everything back afterward.

Can you add servers on PS5 Minecraft?

No, not directly. Minecraft on PS5 and PS4 is Bedrock Edition, and minecraft.wiki notes that the Add Server feature "is unavailable for console versions of Bedrock Edition." Windows, Android and iPhone players get a button to add any address; console players don't. If a video shows an Add Server button on a PlayStation, it's either a workaround menu or a different platform.

What you need first on PlayStation

• PlayStation Plus. Online multiplayer on PS5 and PS4 needs an active PlayStation Plus membership. That includes featured servers, Realms and any server reached through a workaround. See PlayStation Plus for current plans.
• A Microsoft account. Minecraft on PlayStation asks you to sign in with a free Microsoft account for online play and crossplay with other platforms. The game shows a code and a link the first time.
• Multiplayer allowed. For a child's Microsoft account, a parent has to allow "join multiplayer games" in Xbox Family Settings (yes, even on PlayStation, because the setting lives on the Microsoft account). PlayStation's own parental controls can block online play too, so check both.

How to join a featured server on PS5 or PS4

1. Start Minecraft and press Play.
2. Open the Servers tab across the top. (For a couple of months in 2026 it was called "Discover"; it's back to "Servers" now.)
3. Choose a server and Join Server. Expect a short download the first time.

How to join a custom Minecraft server on PS5 with BedrockConnect

BedrockConnect is an open-source community project, not an official Mojang or Sony tool. With your console's DNS pointed at it, clicking certain featured servers opens BedrockConnect's own server list, where you can enter any Bedrock address and port.

PS5 DNS steps

1. Open Settings (the gear icon at the top right of the home screen).
2. Go to Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
3. Highlight your current Wi-Fi or LAN connection, press the Options button, and choose Advanced Settings.
4. Note your current DNS setting (usually Automatic), then set DNS Settings to Manual.
5. Enter the primary and secondary DNS from the BedrockConnect page and press OK to save.

PS4 DNS steps

1. Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
2. Pick Use Wi-Fi or Use a LAN Cable, then choose Custom (not Easy).
3. Leave IP address and DHCP Host Name on their defaults, and set DNS Settings to Manual.
4. Enter the primary and secondary DNS, leave MTU and Proxy on their defaults, and test the connection.

Then, in Minecraft

1. Restart Minecraft so it picks up the new DNS.
2. Open Servers and join a featured server that the README lists as redirect-compatible.
3. Add your server in the list that appears: name, address, and port (19132 unless the server says otherwise), then join.

The no-settings option: BedrockTogether

If changing network settings on the family PS5 isn't an option, BedrockTogether is a free, ad-supported phone app (iPhone and Android) that makes a server appear as a local LAN game. Its FAQ lists PS4 and PS5 as supported and says it isn't affiliated with Sony, Microsoft or Mojang.

1. Connect the phone to the same Wi-Fi as the PlayStation.
2. Enter the server address and port in the app and tap Run.
3. In Minecraft, open the Friends tab and join the server from the LAN games section.

There's also Phantom, a PC tool that does the same LAN trick. Its project page lists PS4 as supported but doesn't mention PS5, so on PS5 we'd try BedrockConnect or BedrockTogether first.

How to play Minecraft with friends on PS5

Servers aren't the only way. If you just want to play with people you know, these are simpler:

• Split-screen on one console. Plug in more controllers. Local split-screen doesn't need PlayStation Plus.
• Join a friend's world. Friends who are playing show up in the Friends tab when their world is open to multiplayer. Add friends by Microsoft gamertag for crossplay with Xbox, Switch, PC and mobile.
• A Realm. Always-on and invite-only. At the time of writing, Bedrock Realms is about $3.99 a month and Realms Plus about $7.99 a month for you plus 10 friends (current prices). Realms can't run plugins or mods.
• A public server with your friends. Everyone joins the same featured server, or the same custom server through a workaround.
